S tronic®
The S tronic® gearbox combines the low fuel consumption of the manual gearbox with the advantages of an automatic. In automatic mode, its control function performs gearshifts swiftly and times them for optimised fuel consumption. The huge spread of ratios covered by S tronic® allows the top gears to operate at low engine speeds.

LED technology
The LEDs used in daytime running lights, side turn indicators and rear lights as well as the optional LED headlights are made to last the lifetime of the vehicle. Not only that, but they consume up to 50 % less energy compared with conventional bulbs.

Adaptive cruise control
The automatic distance control system, adaptive cruise control, makes an important contribution towards a consistent driving style and thus to reducing consumption.

Start-stop system
The start-stop systemreduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by switching off the engine when the car is stationary. For instance, when the driver brings the car to a halt at traffic lights, moves the gear lever into neutral and takes their foot off the clutch, the system shuts down the engine.

Driver information system with efficiency programme
The display of the optional driver information systembrings together a wide range of individual displays in the centre of the cockpit, continuously showing the vehicle’s current operating status. The integrated on-board computer with efficiency programme included in vehicles with the start-stop system also provides the driver with an overview of consumption data, information about ancillary consumers, an enlarged gear-change indicator and fuel-saving suggestions for ultra-economical driving.

Energy recovery
The energy recovery system converts kinetic energy into electrical energy during phases when the car is coasting or braking. When the car accelerates again, the battery directs the temporarily stored energy back into the vehicle. This relieves the load on the alternator and thereby saves fuel.
